Over the past few years, the focus on mental health has risen to the forefront of conversations, media attention, and a variety of school programs. Continual feelings of hopelessness, sadness, and depression continue to rise, especially among adolescents and young adults.
In recognition of the continuing mental health crisis in our nation, the USCCB launched a new component of its National Catholic Mental Health Campaign this month. "Healing and Hope" is focused on amplifying local engagement on mental health and the accompaniment of people struggling with mental illness. The campaign has 3 primary goals: to raise awareness of the mental health crisis, to combat stigma surrounding the topic of mental health, and to advocate for all those impacted by the crisis. The message is simple. Everyone who needs help should receive help. There will be so much more to be done, but this campaign is a great start!
An important first step to understanding mental wellness is educating ourselves. On Wednesday, November 5, Lisa Averion from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's Respect Life office will host a presentation at 7:00pm in the church at St. Ann. Make plans to spend an hour to learn more about mental wellness.
